How to determine if you have a network card:

Right-click My Computer, then Properties then the Hardware tab then Device Manager button.
Do you have a "Network Adapters" item? Click the "+" sign and check for any question marks or exclamation points. If an adapter is listed and it has no problems (! or ?) indicated, everything is OK.
